Experience of Wipro VLSI selection

Hi guys,
This is Umashankar Dewangan from NIT Calicut pursuing M.Tech in Telecommunication. On 04th Feb 2010 Wipro Technologies visited our campus for campus recruitment. This is the first time wipro took online exam. I was one of the lukiest guy selected for Wipro VLSI. I hope this post will be helpful for future aspirants.
The Wipro was expected to arrive at 8:30 am on 04/02/2010. but due to some reason they arrived at 10:00 am. They gave very nice presentation for around 1/2 hour.

Selection procedure was as follows:
1. Online test started at 11:10 am.Online test consists of 50 questions of 3 sections; 20 verbal- active-passive voice, direct-indirect speech, antonym, synonym, very small paragraph based 1 qn, analogy like memoranda:memorandum,20 analytical reasoning-blood relations, puzzles, some questions from quantitative apti and remaining reasoning you can refer RS Aggrawal and 10 questions from technical-C program o/p's, digital electronics and 1 unix command to change the user id.
one more thing just after completion of online exam they provided a sheet with a essay topic we had to write an essay in 10 min my topic was:"The population of India crossed 1 billion - Is it apportunity or disadvantage."

2. Technical interview: After online exam those who got selected were asked their choice of either vlsi or software. Only guys of ECE and EEE were allowed for VLSI. I opted for VLSI. There were seperate panel for VLSI and software. My Interviewer was very cool and supportive. He came out and called my name then i entered with him. I wished him with smile first he told me to sit then suddenly he asked me to wait for 5 min so i came out. Now again second time i went. Interview was as follows:

Me: Good Evening sir (it was 5:00 pm)
In: Have a sit please.
Me: Thank u sir.
In:hmmm.... Casual question Tell me abt yourself?
Me:told abt place, schooling, college then GATE score and my strengths.
In: Glad to hear that very few people accept this(actually i told i am honest and i am scencere and responsible towards my work.)
In: What are your favourite subjects?
Me: sir, Communications and Digital Electronics.
In: Ok, Can you explain TCP/IP module?
He passed me a paper and asked do u have pen? i told i have.
Me:Written all layers from application to physical. and expained bottom 3 and application. rest i told i dont know.
In: Qn abt modulation, Explain PSK mod, RZ and NRZ signalling.
Me: answered all...
In: Do you know abt microprocessor?
Me: yes sir, i studied in B.Tech 4th sem.
In: Draw and explain 8085 microprocessor architecture.
Me: Drawn only register array and stuck.
In: hinted me Ok where do u think mathematical operation is done.
Me: sir ALU. and i told there is 8 bit data line and 16 bit address line.
In: What does program couter do?
Me: told
In: In UNIX what is kernal?
Me: I have no idea sir?
In: What is OS?
Me: told
In: What is process and scheduling?
Me: told something
In:What is Volatile and Non Volatile memory explain with example.
Me: told
In: What is static and dynamic memory?
Me: i thought for some time than told i dont know.
In: DDR is it static or dynamic why?
Me: I have no idea sir.
some other questions i could not recognise other questions. i think this may help u?
In: Do u have any question?
Me:what do u expect from freshers joining to wipro?
In: Answered very well.....
finally he given me HR form.
See he did not even asked for my CV or any thing. Throughout the interview i have friendly eye contact and confidence.

Now at that instant half the battle is already won. I was feeling cozy, very relaxed and confident too.

My HR started at 8:20 pm. HR was a lady i heard she is from Bhopal. See was very cool and straight. here is the glimpse of HR interview:

Me: Entered in energitic way and told good evening Mam.
HR: Please have a seat.
Me: thank u mam.
HR: U r from M.Tech. Why did u choose M.Tech?
Me: manupulated and convinced.
HR: So you had B.Tech in 2007. u have a gap of 1 yr between B.Tech and M.Tech what u did than?
Me: Mam, i was preparing for GATE exam. i took tuition from ACE engineering academy and also i was improving my other skills.
HR: In HR form 1 qn was What is ur expection from Wipro?
i wrote-"Interactive learning facilities and exposure to latest technology"
se told i did'nt understand it?
Me: explained
HR: Have u ever worked in team or leader?
Me: yes mam, in my project and i was leading the group and told blahh... blahhh....convinced
(See saw my rings i worn in index and little finger)
HR: What r those rings you worn for?
Me: Mam my parents beleive in astrology and even i don't beleive they forced me to wear those.
HR: what is the stone in index finger
Me: Firoza
HR: What it is for?
Me: Told
HR: what is stone in index finger and why it is for?
Me: Panna
HR: Emrald is it?
Me: yes mam
HR: Thik hai........(she was from north) Ok Umashankar with smile....
Me: Can i go mam?
HR: Yaa.
This was all abt my HR interview. guys the funda is stay calm and cool throughout the procedure. throughout the interview think that u r the best. I don't beleive it i got selected in its VLSI area.
Statistics:
Total appeared in Online test: 160 (approx)
Cleared Test: 90
Cleared Technical Interview: 35 to 40
Finally selected: 21(6-VLSI, remaining Software)
